Science Night at the Islesboro Community Center. More details to come.
The Islesboro Central School Magnet Program offers an opportunity for non-resident students to attend a small public school in a unique island setting. The school is the "magnet", the "program" is mainland students attending ICS and participating in the same, high quality curriculum that island students enjoy.
Housed in a spectacular historic building, ICS provides a private school atomsphere within a public school setting. In addition to receiving the finest education in core classes of math, science, English and history, our students enjoy excellent instruction in the visual arts, music foreign language, horticulture and computer science.
The comfortable atmosphere of ICS fosters interaction between elementary, middle and high school students on a daily basis. Instructors provide ample opportunities for students to collaborate on projects such as a school-wide recycling program, improving the school's orchard, and a computer-generated island alphabet book.
Magnet News Update
Islesboro Central School Magnet Program coordinator, Melissa Olson, has been hard at work organizing and finding ways to enhance the already successful magnet program. ICS began its Magnet Program over 15 years ago and has continued to offer an attractive alternative to mainland students, grades 5 - 12. The program's goal of increasing diversity among ICS middle and high school student body has been a win-win situation for both island and mainland students. ICS offers small class sizes, enabling more individualized learning for all students. In addition to a strong core curriculum, all students are able to engage in ICS's excellent Music, Art, Language and Horticulture curriculum.
Olson recently organized a Host Family program, and kicked it off with a Pot luck dinner for Magnet families and their island hosts. The Host program allows mainland students a place to stay on island when needed, furthering the connection between the two and giving a peace of mind to magnet parents.
For information on the ICS Magnet Program and the application process, please call Melissa Olson at 734-2251.
