Laramie Project - Special Presentation , Searsport District High School Drama Department - January 2007
The Islesboro Central School is pleased to have hosted the Searsport District High School drama students. They presented The Laramie Project, a play by Moises Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theater Project. The play focuses on the aftermath of the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, a young, gay, University of Wyoming student. It consists of excerpts assembled from over 200 interviews of local residents and draws attention to the issues of hatred, intolerance, and violence in our own communities. It also explores hope, tolerance, and acceptance in ways that move far beyond the morality play or after-school special, which some of you may be familiar with. The interactive discussions after the performance with the characters were invaluable to our school community audience.
