More photos from around the work site. Progress continues on a daily basis.
An aerial shoot, from the Kinnicutt Center roof, of three of our new portable classrooms and the newly named "Plaza" (the large wooden deck) which connects the portables.
Another eagle's eye view looking down upon the mansion.
This view looks, northeast, down Alumni Drive.
The construction crews have now brought in a crane to move steel that will be used for the new additions.
And you can't do steel work with the steel. Brought on a flatbed truck driven onto the ferry and delivered to the school.
The flatbed is unloaded by the mobile crane.
Here we see the towering crane hard at work.
The large crane is used not just to move the steel but also to insert the steel beams into position.
The crew looks on while the crane lowers a steel beam.
The crane is used to move steel around the job site as well as the mobile crane shown here.
Once the gym addition's foundation is complete the next step is to erect the walls then roof.
Looking to the west, out into Penobscot Bay, over the new classroom addition which, as you can see, has the steel work in place.
Below steel beams are being transported to the back of the Kinnicutt Center where the gym will be expanded.
Crews working below on the foundation for the new gym expansion.
Steel has been moved in by crane for the gym addition.
Staff, students and guests: Please be advised that the Kinnicutt Center lavatories are currently out of order.
The new back (gym) wall/partition has been built and is now insulated.
Now with the new portable classrooms onsite the "warehouse," a.k.a. Gym, has now been mostlycleared out. There is still a small percentage of items still needing to be relocated.
From the south end of the school property we take a look at the new classroom addition, after just two and a half months of work.
A look at the wall torn away from the gym.
Prepping for the pouring of the gym addition's foundation.
To the right side of the Kinnicutt Center we look south over the space where the new classroom addition will be.
From a different angle, looking towards the removed back gym wall.
Again looking at the back gym wall where the addition will be added.
With a new cement floor laid in the basement crews next put up the studs for the walls.
A brighter look at the basement space.
(Just outside the old Horticulture classroom.)
Break time for the hard working crew members.
One final photo to take a minute to enjoy the beautiful scenery Islesboro has to offer on any given day of the week.
