Mid July\Early August (2009)
Photos of the continued progress on the Islesboro Central School renovation. The construction site brings daily changes around the Islesboro Central School grounds. Below are a few more pictures documenting the renovation project's progression.
Some items on the second floor were removed by use of a mobile crane, pictured above.
The mobile crane has been used for various assignments, here we see how it was used to tear the back of the Kinnicutt Center's wall down.
Removal of the wall is in order to begin prepping for the Kinnicutt Center's expansion.
Here the crane is "digging" in, removing the back walls of the gym.
A closer look at the wall's removal.
Another look at the removal of the gym wall.
On the south end of the school property we see the work being done for the Kinnicutt Center's expansion.
On the west side of the Kinnicutt Center workers prepare to raise walls for the new classroom addition.
Here we see more progress on the new classroom addition.
Another look at continued work on the classroom addition.
More cement being poured for the southwest addition.
Drainage from the newly installed lines just in front of the doorway to the old Horticulture classroom.
Workers have laid plywood to make for a safer walkway through the attic where renovations are taking place.
Here we see work being conducted where the staircase to the second floor had been.
In the Kinnicutt Center we see to partition wall being erected.
The partition wall will separate the functional space of the gym from the construction crews working on the gym's expansion/addition.
Here we see a carpenter working on a deck that will join three of the 5 portable classrooms.
On the east side of the school grounds, above the playing field, we see two of the classroom portables. These two portables will house Administration, Guidance, the Library, the Special Ed. classroom, and Mr. Tutor's classroom.
In this photo, looking north we see the widening of the loop. The center island has been edged in\back and the trees in the northwest section of the property have been cleared and the landscape built up (by dumping fill). The work will allow for improved accessibility and "actual" parking.
A look at the new basement floor, shown in this dimly lit photo.
On August 10th, participants from the U.S. Department of Education's "Learning & Listening" tour, which came to Islesboro Central School, took an exclusive tour of the construction site.
Principal, Heather Knight, led the exclusive tour for the "Learning & Listening" visitor's.
After the site tour the "Listening and Learning" participants were joined with a small number of Islesboro teachers, students, parents and community members in one of our new portable classrooms.
The discussion, on education reform, was approximately 2 hours long.
