The U.S. Department of Education continues a national discussion on education reform when they take their "Listening and Learning" tour to Islesboro Central School. A roundtable discussion was held with teachers, students and parents at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 10 at Islesboro Central School. Participants include the U.S. DOE's Deputy Assistant Secretary for External Affairs & Outreach, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Vocational & Adult Education, Islesboro's & Principal, Teachers, students, parents, and community leaders.

Islesboro Central School (ICS) is proud to announce the expansion of its popular magnet program. In an effort to increase diversity for the middle and high school student bodies, ICS is seeking motivated students who are interested in low teacher/student ratios and individual attention. There will be two informational sessions Saturday, April 11th, 10:00 am at the University College in Rockland, and 2:00 pm at the Hutchinson Center in Belfast. Current magnet students and their parents will be on hand to share their first-hand experiences and to answer questions.
On Thursday March 26, 2009, we will be enrolling students in the new Islesboro 4-H club. Many students have expressed interest in this club. We will have several meetings per year and some field trips as well both on and off the island.
A pair of Waldo County high schools that have worked to display the former were recently honored for their positive actions during the 2008-09 basketball season, according to the Eastern Maine Board #111 of Approved Basketball Officials. The Islesboro Central School girls beat out 34 schools in Classes A through D to earn the sportsmanship honor from the officials, said Board #111 interpreter and sportsmanship coordinator David Ames.

The award, sponsored by the Maine Principal's Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior's academic achievement and citizenship.

On Thursday evening, March 29 Robin Cacace, Vice- President of Board #111 of The Eastern Maine Board of Basketball Officials was at Islesboro Central School's Winter Sport's Awards Night to present the girl's and boy's varsity basketball teams with sportsmanship banners representative of their selection as the outstanding teams in Eastern Maine as selected by The Eastern Maine Board #111 of Basketball Officials. Islesboro' teams were selected over 31 other schools in both the boy's and the girl's divisions for the sportsmanship honors.
More than half of the state's 11th-graders have not mastered what they're supposed to be learning, according to statewide test results released Thursday. Under a new testing program in 2006, where all 11th-graders were given the Scholastic Assessment Test - not just those headed for college - the statewide averages were expected to drop.
